Women Veterans of Colorado Conference
DENVER, Colo.– Honoring the service of over 38,000 Colorado women veterans, the Women Veterans of Colorado (WVOC) will host the 4th Annual “Women Veterans of Colorado Conference” at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, 10 E 120th Ave, Denver, CO 80233, on Saturday September 13, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 pm. With the theme, “Pathways to Self Sufficiency: Fueling the Entrepreneurial Spirit,” the event includes lunch and numerous resource providers. The 2014 keynote speaker will be Dana Niemela, Program Manager for Denver City and County’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program. Dana is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she served from 1997-2005, earning her commission from the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program at George Washington University with a BA in History. Dana is a nationally recognized expert in Veteran Services, and was recognized at the White House as a 2014 “Woman Veteran Champion of Change.” This honor was bestowed upon Dana, along with nine other women veterans, chosen from over 400 nominations from across the country, for her contributions making veteran services more accessible and focusing on self-sufficiency and service.
Informational sessions present subjects centered on self sufficiency, wellness and employment, including tips for translating military skills into civilian career skills. The Self Sufficiency sessions present workshops on entrepreneurship, financial literacy and building your personal brand, taught by world renown personal branding expert, Lida Citroen of LIDA360.
Employment sessions include experts from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Vocational Rehabilitation and the GI Bill programs, dressing for success and “entrepreneurial bootcamp” experts. The Wellness sessions present experts on building healthy relationships, self-care tips and an expert from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services discussing the Affordable Care Act.
Human Resource personnel from Booz Allen Hamiliton will be on hand to work one-on-one with women veteran participants on resume writing, interview skills, and job search engines. Session presenters are women veterans or who represent organizations supporting women having served in the military.
