West Side Live! Presents… Great Music on the West Side of Town
Are you looking for an evening of music and don’t want to drive into Denver? Have you heard of Westside Live! Presents… ? Our goal is to make music and the performing arts accessible to people from all walks of life. West Side Live! Presents… is an independent performing arts series based in Golden Colorado. Each season, on a Saturday night once a month between September and June, Westside Live! Presents… offers a diverse variety of musical and dramatic genres including folk, jazz, blues, world, pop, and classical music from local and national artists. We are a nonprofit that receives funding from SCFD to promote music and the cultural arts.
What is unique about a Westside Live! Presents concert experience? It’s an independent performance venue that focuses on the music. We host an eclectic menu of performers each season in a convenient location with painlessly-close free parking, and it is run by volunteers so the ticket prices are very affordable (usually $17 on line or$20 at the door).
The venue is small – 240 seats max and it is ADA accessible. It is easy to get to near 32nd and I-70 at 14350 W. 32nd Ave. Golden CO 80401 (Jefferson Unitarian Church kindly rents their facility to us, but we are not associated with the church, so contact us directly) – did we mention free on-site parking where you can feel comfortable even showing up alone?
Some of our previous events have ranged from Hank Troy playing piano for the classic silent film “The General;“ CU-Baffoons A Capella Group; Acoustic Eidolon, an entertaining duet with their custom-made string instruments; Wasted on the Young – good old rock ‘n’ roll; The Denver Opera Collective, singing opera love songs; Dr. Harlan’s Amazing Bluegrass Tonic; Kukandara Marimba Experience (a high energy group that will get you out of your chair); Orpheus Pagan Chamber Choir singing collections of Renaissance, Yuletide, etc; The Mendelssohn Trio – piano, violin, and cello; and many more.
The events start at 7 PM and run until about 9 PM with a 20 minute intermission to socialize with others, as well as the performers, between the sets while you have some hors d’oeuvres, including beer or wine (by donation).
On November 9th, we present a swing band called After Midnight. This extraordinary group of musicians has performed hundreds of concerts around the country. They conquer dizzying charts by the likes of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, Nat King Cole, and Frank Sinatra – guaranteed to get you swinging and smiling. We will even clear a little floor space for you to do a little dancing on the side. Tickets are $17 online or $20 at the door.
January 11 is a special event that we are thrilled to present an evening with the world renown Takács String Quartet. The New York times recently lauded the ensemble for “revealing the familiar as unfamiliar, making the most traditional of works feel radical once more.” And the Financial Times described recent concerts at the Wigmore Hall: “Even in the most fiendish repertoire these players show no fear, interjecting the music with a heady sense of freedom. At the same time, though, there is an uncompromising attention to detail: neither note nor a bow-hair is out of place.” This special event is $40 on line and $45 at the door (if there are any tickets left).
