Weekend Events & Shindig! Party celebrating Lyons May History Month
The First Annual Lyons May History Month brings local historians, history preservation crusaders, old-timers, and musicians together to create an event that immerses visitors into life in 1900 Lyons, carrying them through to the courageous people who survived the 2013 Colorado Flood. Highlighted each Saturday are special events.
Three free Saturday History Programs, 1 p.m.- 3 p.m., and Unveiling New Exhibits, at Lyons Redstone Museum
- Sat. May 2 − Lyons History Preservations.
Listen to Lyons crusaders re-living events from 1970s to today! Learn the saga of who saved the Town’s buildings and history.
- Sat. May 16 − 135 years of Lyons Businesses & their Historic Buildings – Tales, Tours and Maps of Lyons oldest businesses and historic buildings going back to 1881. Followed by guided tours of Historic downtown area.
- Sat. May 23 − Video & Speakers with Personal Flood Stories, Music & More. (added to existing 2013 Flood Exhibit of photographs and headlines)
Sat. May 9 at 5p.m – 8p.m., Rogers Hall, Lyons − !’SHINDIG’! Old Fashioned Community History Party with Old-Fashioned Potluck, live Old-Time Music, Historical Speakers, Silent Auction and More.
Featuring an Enos Mills re-enactor, Father of the Rocky Mt. Natl. Park, created 100 years ago this year. Tales of Local Pioneers. Live Performance of songs from 100 years ago. This is a fundraiser to “Preserve Lyons Pioneer Oral History.” Ticket donation $10 with potluck dish for 6+ or $18 flat rate.
May 30th – All weekend TBA- Play about Lyons History ~ (fee)
Sign up for a Golden Ticket, which entitles the holder to chances at prizes for those who attend multiple events. Attend all events, and get a free history book. Note, the party and the play will take place off museum grounds. Pre-sale of tickets at Lyons Reruns or the Museum.
