The 13th annual Caregiving Symposium Coming in May

By Juliette Jonjak Kershner ~

As a family caregiver, it can seem impossible to find time for getting out and exploring the many resources that might be available to you in the community — or to know where to turn for education and wisdom to guide you on your path. Fortunately, it is almost time for the annual Caregiving Symposium, when presenters and organizations throughout our region gather to share information with caregivers. The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging, along with sponsors including Premier Partners Boulder Medical Center, Hover Community, and TRU PACE Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly, bring forth the 2019 Caregiving Symposium, a free educational event for family caregivers, and the general public. This year, the Symposium will be held on May 22, at the Jewish Community Center, 6007 Oreg Avenue, in Boulder. You can register for either the morning session, 8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m., the afternoon session, 12:30 – 4:15 p.m. (when topics are repeated), or for workshops in Spanish, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Once there, you will find a robust choice of educational workshops to attend, a resource fair of 80+ service providers, and complimentary snacks. Sessions planned include those addressing advanced directives with an elder law attorney, finding joy and resilience in caregiving, how technology can support caregivers, and working with family dynamics.

To get registered for this event, go to, or call 303-441-1685. Registration is required by May 12 (or until spots have filled). Walk in registration may be available, space permitting. You can also register for a phone call about financial assistance for using respite care (substitute elder care during the event) at the above website, or call 303-678- 6284 for more information. For the full agenda, visit the registration website or contact Juliette Kershner, of the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging at 303-678-6116, or
