South Platte Renew Hosting 2021 River Clean-Up Event in Honor of Earth Day
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – South Platte Renew (SPR) invites volunteers to join the 2021 River Clean-Up event, hosted between April 12 and April 25. In honor of Earth Day, this annual event calls on volunteers of all ages to spend time collecting trash and recycling in their neighborhoods, local rivers, parks or lakes with the goal of collecting 100 bags of trash or recycling.
2021 marks the 3rd annual River Clean-up hosted by SPR and this year, the event is going virtual. SPR is expanding its focus to include the South Platte River and any parks, lakes, or other areas. Volunteers can participate by spending time outside revitalizing a location that’s meaningful to them. Over the two-week period, volunteers can choose their preferred date, time, and location to keep local recreation areas clean, safe, and looking their best.
The event provides a great opportunity to spend time outside and give back to the community. Picking up discarded trash and recycling not only helps keep green spaces and waterways looking great, it also improves public health and the environment and prevents pollution from seeping into water sources.
Participants must register at SouthPlatteRenewCO.gov/community-events. Registrants will be entered to win prizes. SPR asks volunteers to share photos of their clean-up efforts and their total number of bags collected with Deb Parker at firstname.lastname@example.org. Trash and recycle bag totals will be shared on SPR’s event page and counted towards SPR’s 100 bag goal.
Volunteers should adhere to CDC guidelines for social distancing and COVID-19 precautions.
