New 2013 Programs

  1. “Vets Helping Vets” a program to help meet the needs of Veterans and Military Families. Veterans and/or the spouses of vets will be assisting other veterans to meet their needs while providing companionship. We also need volunteer partners willing to help develop and oversee the program.
  2.  Disaster Prep Speakers Bureau to alert the public and especially senior citizens on being prepared for natural or manmade disasters. This is very timely after the recent floods, and we need your help!
  3.  Thornton Recycling Campaign to work with schools and businesses to promote recycling of anything recyclable. Help Keep Thornton Beautiful develop and run this new program to promote recycling and help with recycling events in the City of Thornton.

Schools Where All Thrive Tutor/Mentor Program (SWAT): Students who don’t read at grade level by the end of 4th grade have an 80% chance of not finishing school and dropping out. We put teams of senior volunteers to work with 2nd or 3rd grade students behind in their reading skills. You’ll help them practice reading and mentor them in productive life skills. We’re serving elementary schools in Adams Districts 1, 12, 50 and Brighton 27J. We need many more volunteers. Only 2 hours per week are required. We need your help to prevent throwaway kids! We’re planning our upcoming training sessions for new volunteers. Please contact Ron Ausmus at 303-426-4408 or rausmus@seniorhub.org now!

Other volunteering: Providing transportation services to homebound/elderly; providing in-home/respite care; serving at area food banks; serving congregate meals; serving in hospitals; serving in senior centers; serving on boards and agency committees. Call us for a full list of volunteer opportunities. Also: Donate your good 4-ply non-wool yarn so our volunteers can make lap robes for nursing home residents.

Missing Out On Benefits? Thousands of Medicare beneficiaries in Adams County are eligible but not enrolled in Medicare Savings and Low Income Subsidy programs. Call Senior Hub at 303-426-4408 to schedule an appointment to see if you qualify. We also need volunteers for this program. You’ll be trained to provide enrollment assistance for Medicare Savings and Low Income Subsidy Programs; follow-up on choosing prescription drug coverage and other benefits. You’ll help 4 hours, one day/week.
