Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) – April 2017

Adams/E. Arapahoe RSVP has volunteering for those 55 and up in all of Adams County, and Arapahoe (east of I-25). Sponsors: Corp. for National and Community Service and Senior Hub, Inc. Call Tom Rapp at 303.955.6609 or, about the items below and many others not listed here.

Adams 12 Five Star Schools Vision and Hearing Screening Volunteers: Volunteers will work with students between the ages of 6-14 in September, October, and the beginning of November (3-4 schools per week, each school takes 4-6 hours/day.) Training is provided. Computer knowledge is not required. Volunteers must be able to stand for an extended amount of time, provide their own transportation, and have a state issued photo ID.

Meals on Wheels (MOW) Aurora, Brighton, and Senior Hub (southwest Adams County): MOW driver routes are available Monday – Saturday, and require about 1-2 hours. Deliver once a week, once a month or as your schedule allows. Call RSVP for contact info about any of the three MOW outlets above. Due to a shortage of drivers some seniors are now on waiting lists for meal delivery. Please call RSVP to help.

Senior Hub In-Home Care Dept: Volunteer caregivers for light housekeeping duties/shopping; and companionship phone callers to supplement caregiver visits. (Calling can be done from home.)

CRC Senior Peer Counseling Program: Meet with an older adult in their home 1hr/week to listen and support them. CRC Senior Peer Counseling Program trains senior peer counselors to help senior clients.

Community Gardeners: Adams Community Garden CO-OP needs helpers for the upcoming season. Share the produce while helping us donate fresh veggies to food banks and pantries. Last year 5.5 tons!

Platte Valley Medical Center Ambassadors (Brighton): Volunteer slots: Emergency Room waiting area, front lobby area, and women”s services radiology area. Must be able to engage people, offer help, and go above and beyond. Physical needs: ability to walk, push wheelchairs, serve for 4 hour shifts.

Help Adams Dists. 1, 12, 50 and 27J with the Schools Where All Thrive Tutor/Mentor Program helping 2nd/3rd graders with reading, or the general elementary program. Call Ron Ausmus about SWAT at 303.993.3062 or, or Tom Rapp for the general program. Help for 2hrs/week.

Arapahoe County Human Services: On-Call Respite Volunteer; Foster Family Respite/Support Asst; Parenting Time Program Asst; Kidz Night Out; Info. Ambassador; Clerical Asst. Call RSVP.

Aurora Health Access: Volunteers are needed to help in any of several ways: Serving on boards and committees; helping with filing and clerical tasks; answering phones; receptionist duties. Call RSVP.

Military Veterans Health and Help Squads: This program is for military vets and/or their spouses 55 or older. Squads visit by phone, help others with activities, share meals and attend events together. Some help at the Colorado Vets Home, or assist individual veterans and military families in the community.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Adams/Broomfield Counties: Assure that children who can”t live safely at home have someone to fight for their safety, dignity and passage through foster care.
