Ramblings of a Rambler – June 2023

Hi Prime Timers! I went into my garage to get something the other night and walked into a flying circus. It was a startling and unexpected sight. I had a few dozen Miller Moths pay me a visit on their way to the mountain and their summer retreat. Outside, on the right side of my garage, there’s a big evergreen tree – it was loaded with MMs. The local birds were picking them off at will. Every so often, a bird would fly into the tree, and hundreds of MMs would fly out. It looked like tuna picking off a school of bait fish.
There are so many MM’s that they appeared on the local weather radar. That’s impressive! The birds have been having a feast. I can only imagine the nightly all-you-can-eat special for the area bats. For us, they are a nuisance, but for our animal neighbors they are a gift from Mother Nature and we should welcome them. They summer high in the Rocky Mountains where Bears turn over the rocks and eat as many as 40,000 a day adding to their diet up to 20,000 calories a day. That’s impressive!
Deb and I had a great time at the Salute to Seniors, and Senior Connection shows that were held in May. We really do enjoy meeting the folks who read our paper. One woman, in particular, made it a first for me. She said she especially enjoyed reading my Ramblings. She may be the second person in my life who enjoyed what I wrote. The other was back in the 90s when I was covering High School football. A father of a player called to thank me for mentioning the linemen in my article. I’ll take ’em wherever I get ’em…
A big THANK YOU and much appreciation to our advertisers, contributors, readers and distributors for all your support! We couldn’t do it without you!
