Ramblings of a Rambler – June 2013

~ Changes in The Senior Hub Expansion ~

Ramblings of a RamblerIn 1984 the Senior Hub entered a 99 year property lease from Adams County with the stipulation that the county build a facility for the Senior Hub to operate. The building was completed in 1985.

Due to the rapid growth of our older adult population it became evident that the current structure would need to be expanded to continue to meet the needs of that population.

Before construction could begin the Senior Hub needed approval from the City of Federal Heights.

The first thing the City of Federal Heights wanted was to renegotiate the 99 year lease. The plans never moved much farther. Bogged down with heavy handed negotiations at every turn the Senior Hub finally gave up their bid to expand. Instead they will remodel.

The Senior Hub is an essential organization for thousands of Denver’s Senior Citizens. They would have raised 100% of the cost of the project through donations. They are currently at 80% of their goal. There would have been $0 cost to the City of Federal Heights. Whats wrong with this picture?…
