FREE Stroke Fair and Community Risk Screening

Are you at risk for stroke? Attend our FREE Community Stroke Fair and Risk Screening to learn more. This event will be your opportunity to learn your individual risk factors. You will meet one-on-one with skilled professionals, learn your risk score and how to modify your risk factors, receive lifestyle education and nutrition advice, and tour PVMC’s state-of-the-art Medical Imaging suite to show you how technology is used to diagnose and treat stroke.

Bring your cholesterol results from your most recent blood test and a current list of medications.

Ready, Set, Quit. You Can Be Tobacco Free- Smoking Cessation Class
Session 2: Informational Meeting: Thursday, May 2
5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Imagine tasting flavors in your food you’ve never savored before. Imagine cutting your risk for heart attack in half. Imagine saving $150 (or more) a month – that’s over $1800 a year! 

If you’re ready to kick the habit once and for all, Platte Valley Medical Center is here to help you. We offer a free smoking cessation information class for individuals who are ready to quit. The sessions are taught by hospital respiratory therapists (RTs) and include resources to begin your smoke-free journey.

Participants will learn:

  • A fresh approach to quitting
  • The physical and emotional benefits of quitting
  • How to remove roadblocks
  • About nicotine replacement therapies and the correct usage and potential side-effects of prescription quit-smoking medications.
  • How to access resources to successfully quit smoking and begin your new smoke free life.

This informational class is free and includes education resources customized to your individual needs. Classes are held in Conference Room C at Platte Valley Medical Center, 1600 Prairie Center Parkway in Brighton. Registration is required. If you should chose to sign up for session 2 of Ready, Set, Quit! the fee is $40. The dates of session 2 classes are: May 9,16,23,30 & June 6,13,20

Stroke Recovery Support Group
Monday, May 6, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.

Stroke is a leading cause of death in the United States. For patients and their families who have experienced a stroke, the emotional strain can often be overwhelming. Platte Valley Medical Center (PVMC) offers support through its Stroke Recovery Group to help patients and their families connect with others while learning about valuable community resources. Total Joint University
Tuesday, May 14, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Total Joint University (TJU) is a class for individuals who are scheduled for, or are contemplating, a joint replacement procedure.  TJU is designed to provide the information you need – from pre-op, to day of, to your hospital stay and recovery – to help you proceed with confidence. Cancer Support Group
Saturdays, May 11 & 25, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Platte Valley Medical Center offers a monthly support group to help cancer patients and their families cope with the uncertainties and overwhelming feelings that cancer brings. Research shows that a support group can help people emotionally and even improve their physical health through treatment. The Cancer Support Group in held in the hospital’s Oncology Clinic, which is located at 1606 Prairie Center Parkway in Suite 270 of the Medical Office Building. A Journey Through the Aging Brain with Neurologist H. Rai Kakkar, M.D.
May 15, 6:00 p.m.

Dr. Kakkar will take you on a journey through the aging brain and introduce you to a spectrum of memory related diseases, from normal forgetfulness to the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease.

Learn about dementia, its causes, and current diagnostic tests and treatments. You will also learn about treatable causes of dementia and how to modify the disease process to maintain quality of life for as long as possible. Dr. Kakkar will also share resources for caregivers and families.

Free Health Screenings at King Soopers in Brighton
May 15-17, 7 – 10 a.m. & 3 – 7 p.m.

To celebrate Emergency Medical Services (EMS) week, the team from Platte Valley Ambulance will offer free fasting blood sugar testing, blood pressure screenings, Vial of Life and Stroke education, and free giveaways!
