PeopleFirst Hospice and Bridgepoint Palliative Care Name New Medical Director
Denver, CO — Dr. Donald J. Murphy has been named medical director for PeopleFirst Hospice and BridgePoint Supportive Care, a Palliative Care program.
PeopleFirst Hospice is a fully licensed hospice agency offering services to families in the following counties: Denver, Douglas, Arapahoe, Jefferson, Adams and Broomfield. BridgePoint Supportive Care assists individuals facing the challenges of serious illness where the focus is on pain and symptom management and family support.
Dr. Murphy is founder and faculty member of Colorado M.E.S.A. (“Medicare Experts/Senior Access”) Initiative, which is a collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter funded by the Colorado Health Foundation, the Kaiser Permanente Foundation, and Caring for Colorado. The project’s goals are to increase the quality and accessibility of healthcare for seniors under the Medicare program and to increase the confidence and satisfaction of primary care physicians in treating seniors with some of the most difficult and co
-existing health conditions throughout Colorado.
In addition, he is Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Board Member of the Colorado Health Foundation. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Geriatric Society and the Denver Clinical and Pathological Society.
He has been voted one of Denver’s top geriatricians in 5280 Magazine’s annual “Denver’s Top
Doctors” issue 13 times.
In his role with PeopleFirst and BridgePoint Supportive Care, Dr. Murphy is the Chief Medical Officer and will be responsible for review and certification of referrals consistent with Federal regulations; updating and validating the medical plan of care; acting as a liaison with the referring physician and the hospice interdisciplinary team; providing consultation and support to the palliative care team; and providing on-call physician services. In addition, Dr. Murphy will provide educational presentations to medical professionals and community groups.
