New Senior Chorale Group to be Formed

The Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA) and the Cultural Affairs Association join together to announce a new program specifically designed for seniors age 55 and better.

The Highlands Ranch Encore Chorale is a National Affiliate of Encore Creativity for Older Adults, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to providing an excellent and accessible artistic environment for older adults who seek arts education and performance opportunities under the direction of professional artists. Based in Maryland, Encore Creativity currently has more than 750 singers in 13 chorales throughout Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia, and affiliate chorales in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Utah, Iowa, California, and now Denver, Colorado!

The unique national program emphasizes the social, physical and mental health benefits of singing. It is open to anyone age 55 and better who is interested in a fun and challenging musical adventure, with or without prior choral or singing experience. Repertoire will include arrangements of popular music, show tunes, and holiday favorites that will appeal to singers and audience members alike.

The Highlands Ranch Encore Chorale is a non-auditioned community chorus established by and under the leadership of Brian Patrick Leatherman, Artistic Director and Conductor and Cindy Runkel, Executive Director and Accompanist.

The first 15-week session of The Highlands Ranch Encore Chorale is just $95.00 as a Charter member. The session will kick off on Friday, September 4, 2015, and will culminate on Sunday afternoon, December 6, 2015, with a free holiday concert. The choir will rehearse weekly on Fridays from 10:30 am – noon at the Recreation Center at Southridge, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road, Highlands Ranch, CO, 80130.

Leatherman, Artistic Director and Conductor, comes to the Chorale with over 30 years as a vocal/general music specialist, is an active choral singer, teacher, clinician and adjudicator. As tenor and counter-tenor soloist, he has sung with numerous Colorado and national choirs and orchestras. His conducting posts have included 20 years with the Cherry Creek Chorale, the Pueblo Chorale, multiple church choirs, and the Chorus of the Rockies, as well as guest conducting with the Arapahoe Philharmonic, Boulder and Pueblo Symphonies, and the Greeley and Colorado Springs Chorales. He holds degrees in Music Education and Choral Conducting from Colorado State University.

Runkel, the Executive Director and Accompanist, currently serves as both Principal Accompanist and Marketing & Development Manager for one of Colorado’s largest adult community choruses, the Cherry Creek Chorale. She received a full piano scholarship to Miami University, where she held various choral leadership roles, accompanied and sang in multiple ensembles, performed in two European concert tours and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She performs professionally throughout the Denver area for a variety of public and private events.
