Neighborhood Meetings for Citizen Input on Adams County District Plan

The Adams County Long Range Strategic Planning Office announced two additional neighborhood meetings will be held in February to solicit public input and feedback on the District Plan, a collaborative effort between the citizens, staff and stakeholders of the City of Brighton and Adams County. The District Plan’s boundary includes the area generally bounded by Bromley on the north, Buckley Road on the east, E-470 along the south and the South Platte River corridor on the west, and will serve as a comprehensive planning document for both the county and the City of Brighton.

“The District Plan evaluates environmental, quality of life, development and economic considerations, now and in the future, and is founded on property owner, resident and stakeholder input. This plan highlights the success which is possible when government agencies work together with the public to develop a shared vision, a shared understanding of what it takes to implement plans, and a common way forward,” said Director of Long Range Strategic Planning, Abel Montoya.

The District Plan will investigate the feasibility of preserving farmland, make recommendations on the preservation of lands that remain valuable for food production, incorporate related uses to enhance the economic vitality of these small farms and attract visitors to Brighton, and determine appropriate uses for lands that are no longer viable for food production.

The public is invited to learn more about the District Plan and provide input at two upcoming neighborhood meetings. On February 1, residents will learn more and provide input on the District Plan’s recommendations, and the February 29 meeting will allow for participant feedback on the draft plan document prior to review and public hearing by the City of Brighton and Adams County Planning Commissions, and the Brighton City Council and Adams County Board of Commissioners at subsequent meetings this spring. Simultaneous translation in Spanish and English will be provided at the neighborhood meetings. The draft District Plan will be posted on the District Plan website, www.DistrictPlan.org, on February 19, 2016.
