Highland West Community Celebrates its Founding Members and “Moving Forward”

On August 18, 2016, Highland West Community (HWC) in Wheat Ridge, celebrated their 50th year Anniversary and the completion of the two year renovation project. We also took this opportunity to honor our founding churches: Westminster Presbyterian Church and Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church. Attendees included residents, staff, the HWC Board of Directors and members of the two churches.

Several church members spoke about the December day over 50 years ago when the shovel went into the ground for the twelve story building which would eventually house over 120 seniors. At the time of opening, seventy six units were occupied. Rentals ranged from $65.00 to $114.00 monthly depending on the type and location of the apartment. A key selling point was the beautiful panoramic western view of the Rocky Mountains from our Penthouse, which still exists today.

People that helped to create HWC also took an active role in making our community a wonderful place to live. With our renovated Tower building, Wellness Center, garden space, dog park, exercise park and close proximity to shopping, churches, and medical facilities, HWC continues to be a number one choice for many of our seniors in the Wheat Ridge area and beyond.

Wheat Ridge continues to expand with 21 parks, community gardens, a recreation center, an active adult center and much more.

Staff and residents alike are moving forward with new and creative ideas to make Highland West Community a leader in innovative, affordable senior living. We take pride in supporting the senior community of Wheat Ridge by offering an energetic and welcoming place that many seniors are proud to call home.
