French Organist Henri Pourtau Presents Recital in Memory of Denver Organist, Vicki Bartel

Denver – Henri Pourtau, Director of Music at Notre Dame de Bon Voyage Church in Cannes, France, presents “A Concert for Vicki” in honor of his student and Denver musician Vicki Bartel on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1820 Broadway, Denver, CO 80202. The program features four works by Johann Sebastian Bach – Pièce d’Orgue in G, BWV 572; Christ, unser Herr, zum Jordan kam, BWV 684; Passacaglia in C minor, BWV 582; and Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele, BWV 654 – as well as Louis Vierne’s Third Symphony. Admission is free and contribution opportunities will be available for pancreatic cancer research. The concert will be followed by a reception for the artist.

Pourtau has an active career as a concert organist, participating in numerous international festivals and appearing as soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte-Carlo, Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice, and the Instrument Ensemble of Grenoble. He often gives master classes on the performance of French organ music and has performed for radio and television broadcasts, including Poulenc’s Organ Concerto with the Virtuosi of France for “Musiques au Cœur” by Eve Ruggieri. Pourtau is founder and Artistic Director of the Friends of the Organ of Cannes and created the organ series, Cycle d’Orgue International de Cannes.

Vicki Bartel studied with Pourtau while in France as the American Guest Organist on invitation from the Cannes Ministry of Culture. She studied at the Conservatoire in Cannes, earning the First Prize in organ. Bartel was known in the Denver music community for her work as organist and accompanist for churches and ensembles such as Parker United Methodist Church, St. Andrew United Methodist Church, the Littleton Chorale and the Cherry Creek Chorale. She also sang in the Trinity United Methodist Chancel Choir.
