Free Community Health Classes Offered in February

COAW, the Consortium for Older Adult Wellness, is offering community health classes that begin in February. Register at the contacts listed. COAW is a nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness leader trainings, community health classes and falls prevention screenings throughout Colorado to assist individuals and communities in achieving better health. Lakewood—National Diabetes Prevention Program (1-year program)—Mondays, Feb. 5, 2018-Feb. 5, 2019. The free class meets for 16 weekly sessions followed by six monthly sessions from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Centura Health Belmar Neighborhood Health Center, 7551 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226. If you have pre-diabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, it’s time to take charge of your health. The National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), utilizes lifestyle change intervention to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. Westminster—Chronic Pain Self-Management—Thursdays, Feb. 15-March 22 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Centura Health 84th Ave. Neighborhood Health Center, 2551 W. 84th Ave., Westminster, CO 80031. This free class helps people deal with the challenges of living with chronic pain. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
