Lunch at the Erie Community Center Lunches are provided by the Weld County Senior Nutrition Program every Thursday at 12:15 pm. Join us for the social hour beginning at 11:00 am. Reservations are required by Tuesday at 12:00 pm by calling 303.926.2795.

After the Thursday lunch, join us for free entertainment. Entertainment begins at approximately 12:45 pm and is open to anyone, whether you eat lunch with us or not.

Qi-gong, in other words, “Energy Cultivation”, is the practice of coordinating ones mind, breathing, and body movement to improve circulation throughout the body. Based on ones practice, mental attitude, metabolism, sleep, physical strength and balance, and thus over-all health will display significant improvement. This 75 minute class will consist of warm-ups and learning such movements as the: Yuan Gong, Pai Da Gong and the Ba Duan Jin (Eight Section Brocade). Loose clothing is recommended. Registration deadline is one week prior to class start date.

Erie Never Stops Walking
Join us on the Erie Community Center walking track for this indoor walking program. This program offers two days a week to walk as a group. We will gather on Mondays as a group on the bridge and then walk the track for an hour. You can then choose to walk one other day during the week as your second day. On Mondays the group is lead by a staff member who is there to assist and help you. The goal of each session is to “walk” the distance to a designated location on a map, and the ultimate goal after each session is to walk or run a 5K race together. After each session we will have a party to celebrate our great successes! Registration is not required. For questions or more information, please call 303.926.2795.

Medicare or Medicaid Counseling
Free counseling is available to you for help with Medicare or Medicaid issues. Reserve a 45 minute, one-on-one appointment with a SHIP counselor, specially trained on Medicare insurance and Medicaid low-income programs. They can help you fill out forms or answer questions. Edelweiss Alpacas & Lunch
Edelweiss Alpacas, LLC began in 2009. They exist to breed exceptional quality alpacas for the alpaca industry, and animals with outstanding fleece for the fashion and textile industry. The farm store carries a variety of handmade and commercially-made alpaca finished products. This educational walking tour will allow you to pet the alpacas. After the tour we will have lunch at Pepper Jacks (price range $7-$10). Fee includes transportation and Alpaca Farm. Lunch is own your own. Registration deadline is August 29.

Wild Animal Sanctuary & Lunch
A Sanctuary is a place where animals can come to live and be protected for the rest of their lives. This facility is situated on 720 acres of rolling grassland and was designed and built with a centralized compound located in the middle of the habitats. The facility also has a unique system of elevated cat-walks and observation platforms which allow people to view the rescued animals enjoying their new life in large acreage habitats. Lunch will be at Corner Kitchen. Fee includes transportation and sanctuary. Meals are on your own, price range $5-$10. Registration deadline is September 16.

Haunted House Hunt Mystery Dinner
Lumber Baron Murder Mystery Dinners are Killer Fun! Murder mystery dinners have been a main-stay on the dinner theatre scene for two decades! The Lumber Baron offers a unique fun night of entertainment like none other! Treat yourself to an evening of mystery, intrigue and gourmet dining, then laugh along with the hilarious cast of characters, inspect a few clues and see if you can solve the mystery! This talk will cover safe and effective exercises, habits and attitudes that work together to reduce your likelihood of falling or stumbling. The goal is to improve your strength, your endurance, your flexibility and to practice safe balancing. Life is more fun when you’re not worried about moving. Talk on Knowing Your Medications
Wednesday, September 25, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Medications are used to help us feel better and can be any prescription medicine, vitamins, herbal supplements, or over-the-counter remedies you buy at the store. Some medicines or combinations of medicines have side effects that make you feel drowsy, dizzy, or light-headed. These may cause you to lose your balance or feel unsteady on your feet. Fall Risk Screening
Thursday, September 26, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Using a specially developed software program, participants are screened to identify those with an elevated risk of falling. People who fit into this category are then asked if they would like to participate in an assessment, at a later date, to learn more about their individual situation. Oktoberfest in Erie
It’s the first weekend of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany so we are going to celebrate with the Erie Active Adults at the Erie Community Center! We will serve you a traditional catered German meal, dance to polka music and have lots of fun and laughs. Add to the fun by wearing your Dirndl dress or lederhosen and you will have a chance to win a gift card. We will also celebrate our SilverSneakers® anniversary at the Erie Community Center. Bring your SilverSneakers® card to be entered into a drawing for an additional prize. This event is open to everyone, whether you belong to SilverSneakers® or not. Watercolor The Art Of Discovery
Students will be encouraged to “discover” their personal style and to develop it more fully, making use of the richness and vibrancy possible with the use of watercolor applied luxuriously and in layers. Students are encouraged to purchase a few large (37 ml) tubes of watercolor, allowing for greater freedom in creating rich and lively paintings. Learn the Medicare alphabet and the ins and outs of supplemental insurance, prescription drug coverage, and Medicare Advantage plans. A Matter of Balance
Are you afraid of falling? Have you stopped doing the things you enjoy? Join A Matter of Balance and learn ways to decrease your fear, increase you activity levels and make changes to reduce your risk of falling. Classes meet once a week for two hours. This eight-week program is sponsored by Boulder and Weld County’s Area Agencies on Aging. Registration deadline is September 29. You will pay the instructor the day of the class.
