Denver Public Library celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
A month-long celebration of fun events and programs ~
Denver, CO—September 2021—The Denver Public Library celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. The library will celebrate all month long with special events both in-person and virtual. Additionally, the library is offering two newly designed, bilingual library cards in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month and to celebrate National Library Card Sign-up Month which takes place throughout September.
There are events and programs for everybody from learning Spanish through the language of cooking, to how to research Hispanic ancestry, to a music performance from Denver’s Chicano Funk band, Los Mochochetes.
Customers can visit any Denver Public Library location (denverlibrary.org/locations) and sign-up for a new library card and can pick one of the two designs celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. One card design showcases colorful flags representing the rich diversity of Spanish speaking countries, the second card shows the cover of Miguel de Cervante’s Don Quixote, which is considered the archetype of modern novels, holding major literary significance as a widely recognized Spanish language novel.
Any Colorado resident or student attending a Colorado college or university may obtain a free Denver Public Library Card. Applicants 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian with a picture ID and proof of address to receive a full privilege library card.
A permanent card allows customers to check out library materials, request library materials from other library systems, use a Denver Public Library computer, reserve museum and cultural passes, and access online learning platforms like Udemy. Existing cardholders may swap for a new design, resulting in a new library card number.
