Community Health Classes Offered in August

Lakewood–Stepping On–Free class on Mondays, Aug. 8-Sept. 26 from 1-3 p.m. at the Centura Belmar Neighborhood Health Center, 7551 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226. Stepping On is a small group program designed to reduce falls and build confidence in older adults. Participants engage in making decisions and adding safety strategies to their everyday life. Stepping On covers a range of topics including fear of falling, strength and balance exercises, home hazards, safe footwear and safe clothing, vision as it relates to falls, community mobility, coping after a fall and understanding medication risks. Golden–Chronic Pain Self-Management–$10 fee refunded after completing four classes. Thursdays, Aug. 18-Sept. 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Centura Golden Neighborhood Health Center, 750 Warner Drive, Golden, CO 80401. This program helps people deal with the challenges of living with chronic pain. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participantsÕ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Colorado Springs–National Diabetes Prevention Program–Free class on Thursdays, Aug. 18, 2016-July 22, 2017. The class meets for 16 weekly sessions followed by six monthly sessions from 9-10 a.m. at AgeWell Medical Associates, 2350 International Circle, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. If you have pre-diabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, itÕs time to take charge of your health. The National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), utilizes lifestyle change intervention to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. Arvada–Healthier Living Colorado-Diabetes™–$10 fee refunded after completing four classes. Wednesdays, Aug. 24-Sept.28 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Centura Arvada Neighborhood Health Center, 16280 W. 64th Ave., Arvada, CO 80007. This free class is designed for people living with diabetes and their caregivers and teaches making healthy choices and self-management skills. It is highly participatory, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their diabetes and maintain an active fulfilling life.
