Coal Creek Meals on Wheels Serving Area Seniors for Over 40 Years
Coal Creek Meals on Wheels has been serving meals to our neighbors in Lafayette, Louisville, Superior and Erie for over 40 years. In 2013 we served over 16,000 meals and provided meals for 215 individuals.
CCMOW serves a freshly prepared nutritionally sound hot meal on a daily basis. Our menus are planned with great care to provide meals for people with special dietary needs, such as diabetes. Every meal is low sodium and low fat.
We deliver more than a meal however, as we make sure that our trained volunteers do a wellness check on each of our clients daily. If a client has additional needs, then we can make the appropriate referrals for other services.
We are proud to say we have never turned anyone away and do not have a waiting list. The sign up procedure is simple and quick and can be done over the phone or on our website. There is a sliding fee scale for payment, and we are able to provide some meals for free for those people with very limited incomes.
Project Homecoming is a program available to those just coming home from the hospital or nursing home. We will provide 5 days of free meals during that delicate healing phase, and will also provide free meals to their caregiver if they are unable to cook.
CCMOW has over 150 dedicated volunteers, some of whom have been helping for over 20 years. A small, dedicated staff completes the operation. We are seeing the need for freshly prepared meals increasing this year.
Lesley Jackson, Executive Director stated “We are able to help anyone in need of a nutritious hot meal. Hunger among seniors is increasing in Boulder County and we are seeing an increase in numbers asking for help. We will serve anyone who is unable to cook for themselves, whether it is a young mom just coming home from the hospital with a new-born, or a senior with either physical or mental health issues. We are always in need of volunteers, whether to deliver meals, help in the kitchen or assemble the meals, we can always use more help!”
