Adams & Broomfield Counties, Colo. – CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Adams & Broomfield Counties hosted its annual Light of Hope Fundraising Luncheon on Tuesday, October 15th at The Westin Westminster’s new Legacy Ballroom and raised more than $148,000. Funds raised will aid CASA’s mission of providing specially selected and trained community volunteers, CASA Volunteers, to advocate for abused and neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes.
9News Anchor Anusha Roy was the luncheon’s emcee and Dr. Brook Griese was the keynote speaker. Griese is a clinical psychologist, researcher, author, educator, and community leader who has devoted her career to promoting resilience in children and families who have experienced trauma, loss, and adversity. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal as they gained a deeper understanding about the CASA Mission and listened to a powerful story of a current CASA Volunteer, Kyle Burnett, and the journey he has embarked on helping to change the life of a CASA Youth. “Kyle shared his traumatic life story in front of more than 300 guests. He was honest, raw, vulnerable and a testament of how a small action of care and kindness can change the trajectory of one’s life,” shared Margaret Bachrach, CASA Vice President of Communications & Development.
With nearly 350 guests in attendance, the goals were twofold: to raise awareness to recruit additional CASA’s to serve more children and to raise funds to support the program. CASA of Adams & Broomfield Counties served over 500 children last year but has an additional 1,100 children in need and is aggressively recruiting caring/passionate individuals to step up and provide a voice for children in court.
