New Essays on Philosophy of Religion

Sharing With A Purpose (SWAP) is designed to educate, enrich, and embolden older adults to live their lives with energy, motivation, and gratitude for life, which includes an ongoing sense of purpose and value within the human village. Monthly gatherings will offer welcoming, all-inclusive circles of conversation where participants feel safe and inspired to engage in interactive dialogue on compelling topics. Gatherings will be led by guest speakers and/or volunteer facilitators.

Sharing Photos Online

Take pictures with a smart phone or tablet and learn to store and share those images online with friends and families. This class will provide an overview of Instagram and Snapchat, two programs that allow the sharing of images online. Bring a smartphone or tablet to setup an account and begin to share photographs. This class is demonstration style, with hands-on experimentation encouraged. Handouts will be provided.

Streaming music, or listening to music over the internet, is a free and inexpensive way to enjoy an endless variety of tunes, songs and classical compositions. Smartphones, tablets and computers are the new “radios.” Students will learn about free and paid streaming websites and how to access music and local radio stations from these sites on their mobile devices. This class is demonstration style, and a handout will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone or tablet to follow along and practice.

Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Psychological Approaches to Reducing Pain

Join Yoni K. Ashar as he explains how studies show how the brain reacts to placebo effects, chronic pain, meditation, and compassion using functional MRI and machine learning. His research explores how thoughts and beliefs influence health via the brain, and to create neuroimaging research products that can be used in clinical applications and can help our society. Mr. Ashar will give an overview of the newest research findings on the sources of pain, inquiries into pain reduction, and self-help methods that may affect pain management in daily life.

Movement and the Brain

Beginning in infancy, physical movement plays a vital role in the creation of the nerve cell networks that are at the core of learning. The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education utilizes movement and the principles of this innate learning ability to communicate with the brain to enhance movement and awareness. In this class Gil Kelly, Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, will introduce the Feldenkrais Method and explore simple movements in sitting and standing to improve your ease of movement.

The old West is often remembered with images of cowboy boots, shootouts, bars, and wagon trains. The West, however, had many pockets of luxury and elegance. Denver was no exception and had numerous neighborhoods where those with money lived with style and grace. Denver History Tours will look at these locations and examine the reasons these areas changed across time. No lunch stop included. Please bring snacks as needed. Minimum registration by March 6.
