Seated Restorative Yoga

Seated, restorative yoga is designed to restore both body and mind to a natural state of balance. The student is guided through breathing techniques, meditation, visualization and movements specifically designed to reduce stress, nurture and heal. Instructor: Linda Manchester.

This slow flow stretch class is designed to strengthen, stretch and stabilize muscles and joints to help prevent injury and increase flexibility and balance. Breathing techniques with movement can help release blocked energy, loosen tight muscles, improve circulation and range of motion, and reduce pain. Participants will practice techniques to get up and down off the floor and should be comfortable using a mat on the floor, though chairs will be provided for assistance.

Hormone imbalance not only affects a person’s energy level, it can also create excess hunger, sugar cravings, anxiety, hair loss, constipation and more. Learn the symptoms of hormonal imbalances that can be influenced by the thyroid, adrenal glands, and blood sugar, and how to restore gut health (yes, it’s related), stress and nutritional deficiencies. This program will review what to eat, how to maximize nutrient intake, restore digestion and balance energy levels. Instructor: Erin Williams, MSN, CN is a Certified Nutritionist with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a master’s degree in Nutrition.

Opera began as courtly entertainment and became one of the most popular music styles in the 18th and 19th centuries. This educational session looks at the development and public reception of opera from well-known Baroque era singers such as Farinelli, Rossini, Meyerbeer, and Verdi to the commercial opera industry in Italy and France in the 19th century.
Mindfulness and Connection in the Face of Challenge and Change:
an 8-Week Intergenerational Workshop

This course will work to bridge stereotypical assumptions between generations by sharing stories and learning mindfulness practices. Together, participants will explore what mindfulness is and isn’t, how to quiet the mind to lessen the stress and anxiety, and bring compassion, gratitude and joy to all interactions. This eight-week course will pair a high school student with an older adult for the duration of the course, and will include interviews, journaling, artwork, group discussions, and other group activities. A commitment to attending all eight weeks is required to participate.
A $15 materials fee will be required, payable to the instructor on the first day of the course.
Instructor: Lisa Holmes is a certified mindfulness instructor with Mindful Schools; she also co-facilitates Boulder Universal Online School’s 1 to 1 Technology Assistance, a program that brings middle and high school students to the Older Adult Center to provide technology assistance for older adults.
