Benefits in Action COVID-19 Vaccine Program

Are you having trouble navigating the world of online COVID-19 vaccination scheduling? If so, you are not alone. Many individuals, particularly older adults, are having trouble accessing and utilizing the technology needed to schedule COVID-19 vaccine appointments. That is why Benefits in Action (BIA) jumped into the world of COVID-19 vaccine scheduling. Are you interested in learning more? If so, you should pay close attention to this article.

Benefits in Action specializes in health benefit navigation and application assistance for older adults and other vulnerable populations. However, our mission is broader than that. We are trying to enhance health and wellbeing with an eye toward helping individuals become self-sufficient. With that broad mission in mind, we are quick to fill gaps in services. That is why, beginning earlier this year, we rolled out our vaccine navigation program to help ensure that individuals facing barriers to vaccine scheduling technology have access to the tools they need to stay safe.

Here is how the program works. We are partnering with numerous organizations in the greater metro Denver area to schedule individuals for COVID-19 vaccine appointments. We refer those who call our intake line to our volunteer COVID-19 vaccine navigators, who help individuals by scheduling them for vaccine appointments. We also work with our numerous partner organizations to obtain referrals of individuals that are struggling with vaccine scheduling technology.

The program has been a huge success. Since February 2021, we have helped over 750 individuals get access to the COVID-19 vaccine. We are also partnering with the Asian Chamber of Commerce to provide vaccination clinics in churches and other facilities. These clinics are a collaboration of the Asian Chamber of Commerce, BIA, Denver Health, the City of Westminster, and the CDPHE.  Additionally, BIA has partnered with SCL Health, other health care systems and the Jefferson County Health Department to enroll people in their mass and pop-up vaccination sites.

We plan to continue our vaccine navigation program as long as the need persists. This is why we are working to secure additional funding for the program. Once we secure the necessary funding, we will work to streamline the process from intake to vaccine appointment.

Still interested in learning more about the program?  Need help finding a vaccination appointment?  If so, call BIA at 720-221-8354 or email us at info@benefitsinaction.org. Our COVID-19 vaccine navigators can schedule you for appointments to receive the vaccine in the metro Denver area. Until next month, stay healthy and stay safe.
