Bemis Virtual Book Clubs
The library may be closed, but the internet is open! And we’re going to use it for a good old-fashioned (well, ok, new-fashioned) virtual book club! So if you’re stuck at home, and getting antsy for a chance to talk about something other than coronavirus, the economy, and the state of the TP aisle, here’s your chance. Take your pick of a fantastic fiction title, or a thought-provoking nonfiction book (or both), and then log in to join us (meetings will be hosted on Zoom, and require a downloaded app – click here to get Zoom)! Both of these titles are available as e-books and e-audio through Hoopla and OverDrive.
Fiction Book Club: Friday, May 1, 12:00 p.m.

Anthropocene – The Human Epoch
Humanity has reengineered the planet on a scale like no other species – to the extent that we could be collectively considered a geological force. And there are those who argue that we now live in a new geologic era – the Anthropocene Epoch – marked by profound and lasting human changes to the Earth. From concrete seawalls in China that now cover 60% of the mainland coast, to the biggest terrestrial machines ever built in Germany, to the devastated Great Barrier Reef in Australia and massive marble quarries in Carrara, the evidence and experience of human planetary domination is breathtaking.
