The Augustana Chancel Choir, under the direction of Richard Larson, provides volunteer opportunities for members and friends of Augustana Lutheran to sing in a choral setting each Sunday in worship and extend those musical experiences to the general public in three concerts a year. In addition, through the years, this sixty voice choir has made recordings, traveled to Europe, and most recently sung at Avery Fisher Hall in NYC. They often collaborate with other instrumentalists, notably Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra. The choir has commissioned and premiered works, most recently In pace: A Requiem of Peace by Steven Morgan and for this particular concert they will be singing the Colorado premier of Te Deum by Rene Clausen. In the spring they will be premiering another work of Steven Morgan’s, The Seven Last Words. They are highly respected in Denver and church choral circles. Augustana’s Chancel Choir is pleased to be included this season on the Augustana Arts Concert Series presenting this benefit concert on their behalf.
Since 1997, Augustana Arts has been serving the community by presenting the artistry of resident performing groups, internationally renowned touring artists and accomplished locally-based ensembles of many genres. The resident groups, Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra (MSCO) and the Colorado Women’s Chorale (CWC) perform at a variety of venues in addition to the majestic Augustana Lutheran Church in Denver. Augustana Arts serves educational outreach through the City Strings program, an inspired vision to provide youngsters with great need access to high quality, small group music instruction free of cost afterschool at several metro locations.
Augustana Arts concerts and programs are made possible in part by generous support from the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, the Colorado Creative Industries, a state agency which is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the Augustana Foundation and several other community partners.
