Artists Selected for Wheat Ridge Artist Studio Tour

Eleven local artists and a frame business will display their workspaces during the second Wheat Ridge Studio Tour on Saturday, August 27. Organized by the Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission, the tour will provide an opportunity for the public to view these professional artists in their realm—a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to create fine art.

The artists’ studios range from homes that are literal museums of the artist’s work to converted sunrooms to a professional co-op where multiple artists share a common room where creative energy can be shared while working in their own studios.

This year’s event also includes demos on proper care and framing of artwork at Metro Frame Works.

The artists chosen are Shamanic artist Antonio Arguello; clay and mixed media artist Marie E.v.B. Gibbons; oil painter and water colorist Juanita Gutierrez; children’s book artist Katie Hartkopp; representational painter Sina March; mixed-media sculptor Lisa Bonilla Panter; multi-media artist Maria Sands; fabric artist Karin Soderholm; painter Sherry Veltkamp; collage artist Laurie Waalkes; and performance painter Terry Womble.

“Last year’s inaugural event was very well received, and we are pleased to have some returning artists as well as some new faces on this year’s tour,” said commissioner Milly Nadler, who is organizing the event.

The self-guided tour will begin at 9 a.m. on August 27, with the studios closing at 2 p.m. Maps to tour locations will be available for $5 at the Teller Street Gallery, 7190 West 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge, the day of the tour.
