America’s Got Talent Duo Performing for Denver Nonprofit

DENVER, CO – Kavod Senior Life (Kavod) will mark its 50th anniversary with a virtual fundraising event on Thursday, August 26 from 7:15 – 9:30pm.

The event will feature a livestream performance from the acclaimed comedy duo, the Sklar Brothers, who recently were featured on America’s Got Talent (AGT).

The June 29 AGT performance centered on jokes around family and children. “We have kids – but not together; that would be weird,” the brothers (Jason and Randy) quipped. “And if you can tie up your dog to go to brunch, it’s not like raising a kid.”  The recap of their show appearance is here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoKYaQPGePI.

Tickets to Kavod’s online event are $75 and include a pickup meal from either The Bagel Deli or The East Side Kosher Deli. Guests may either host a watch party with their friends or view on their own.  Major sponsors include MidFirst Bank, Pinkard Construction, Loraine and Steven Summer, CBiz, and the Strear Family Foundation.

“This event will be a wonderful and upbeat way to commemorate our current accomplishments while we plan for the next 50 years – or more,” commented Michael Klein, President and CEO of Kavod Senior Life. “We are very proud of our longevity and years of service to thousands of older adults in our community.”

Kavod was created 50 years ago to ensure individuals of all backgrounds and income levels had access to high quality, affordable housing. It opened its first building at 11 S. Adams Street in 1971 under the name of Allied Jewish Apartments. The building was full from day one, so its two adjacent structures at 22 S. Adams and 44 S. Adams were erected soon after.

Over time, Kavod expanded its programs and services; today, it is an award-winning campus, earning such recognitions as the 2020 and 2019 Beacon Award for Best in Health and Wellness (1 in 35 in North America), the 2019 LeadingAge – Robert Wood Johnson Health Equity Award, the 2019 Top Workplaces Award and a 2021 Top Nonprofit recognition from Great Nonprofits.

In 2014, the organization rebranded itself as Kavod Senior Life.  “Kavod” is the Hebrew word for “honor” or “respect,” based on the fifth commandment of “honor your father and mother.” While Kavod has Jewish roots and traditions, it is nonsectarian and open to individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.

“We’ve stayed true to our mission while making enhancements to best meet the physical, spiritual and social needs in our community,” shares Klein.  He is currently leading a strategic planning process to imagine the next phase of growth and development for the organization.
