As of 2023 more than 818,800 Americans reside in assisted living communities. There are over 30,600 active assisted living facilities, operating at an average capacity of nearly 80%. The median cost of a private, single bedroom unit in an assisted living facility is $4,803 per month. In the Thornton area the average cost of assisted living with care cost is approximately $5500 a month. With 7 out of 10 people requiring assisted living care in their lifetime, demand is expected to grow by an additional one million beds by 2040.

There are 572 assisted living facilities in Colorado. These agencies provide nonmedical services for seniors, including medication reminders, daily meals and snacks and help with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing and eating. They also have social and recreational activities such as fitness classes, resident-led clubs and arts and crafts to help residents stay active and build friendships.
