Active Minds re-creates lectures as webinars

Active Minds has been working hard to transform itself in the last few months from a live, in person series of lectures to a web experience that adds value to the day to day lifestyle of seniors. When the quarantine came into effect Active Minds patrons were one of the most hard hit groups. Seniors are more at risk from COVID-19 but also need to be engaged in the world for physical and mental health. Active Minds keeps seniors’ brains engaged with lectures on topics ranging from music to history, current events to foreign affairs. Our webinars have been going from day one of the quarantine but have increased in numbers as facilitators realize the importance of creating engaging activities for their communities. Please call Wynne Reynolds at 303-656-8807 with questions about how Active Minds has been continuing to provide stimulating material for seniors throughout the quarantine and safer at home stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Contemporary Women Composers
In a 1970 article in The New York Times, composer Pauline Oliveros urged critics not to refer to women who happen to also be composers as “lady” composers. Indeed, female composers in contemporary classical music have reached musical heights and forged musical trends that need not be qualified or limited by gender. We’ll listen to works by early 20th century composers such as Rebecca Clarke and Lili Boulanger, explore the sound concepts of Pauline Oliveros, and profile the musical contributions of Joan Tower, Pulitzer Prize winners Shulamit Ran, Jennifer Higdon, Du Yun and more.
