ACAN Meeting July 5, 2023 Thornton Community Connections Center
Presentation by Mark Jensen~
Pastor Mark Janzen has worked with people with memory loss for over 35 years. Early in his career, because of his deep respect for the elderly, he stumbled upon one of the best ways to interact with people affected by memory loss. He has taken training from the Alzheimer’s Association for many years and helped established a multi-site adult day program in Wisconsin. His most recent work with those affected by memory loss was the development of a Memory Cafe at Summit of Peace church in Thornton.
Memory Cafe’s (MC’s) are a two-hour experience for people affected by memory loss and their caregivers. Originally started in Great Britain (disputed) nearly 30 years ago they soon came to the United States. In Mark’s presentation at the Adam’s County Aging Network (ACAN) on July 5, 2023, he will share general information about the history of dementia, best practices for interacting with people affected by memory loss and current information on Memory Cafe’s in the Denver area as well as the different styles they use. He will present info on the specific model followed by the Cafe at Summit.
