13th annual Caregiving Symposium Coming in May
~ By Juliette Jonjak Kershner ~
Caregivers are often so busy it can be challenging for them to get out and explore all the available resources in their community. At the same time, it’s hard to know where to turn for education and wisdom on caregiving, and learn about new technologies or programs that have emerged. Fortunately, it is almost time for the annual Caregiving Symposium, when presenters and organizations, throughout our region gather to share information with caregivers. The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging is partnering with TRUPACE to sponsor the 2018 Caregiving Symposium, a free educational event for family caregivers, and the general public. This year the workshops are organized along four tracks: Caregiving 101 for those new to this path; the long-term caregiver; current trends in care; and facing challenges. Caregivers can stay on one track, or pick and choose from the full agenda. If you can’t make the full day, you are welcome to come for whichever part works best for you.
The Symposium will be held on Thursday May 17, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Plaza Convention Center, 1850 Industrial Circle, in Longmont. Once there, you will find a resource fair full of local providers, a complimentary lunch, and at least 16 workshops on dementia, self-care for the caregiver, legal issues, health care, end of life issues, resources, and more.
To get registered for this event, go to 2018CaregivingSymposium.eventbrite.com, or call 303-441-1685. Register by May 9 in order to receive the complementary lunch. Walk in registration on the day of the event is available, but does not include lunch. To learn more about respite care assistance that is available (substitute elder care during the event) call 303-678-6284.
