Whale of a Used Book Sale

Our fall Whale of a Used Book Sale is coming up Oct. 19-21 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. We have around 80,000 books that we take to the sale (plus CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, rare/collectible books, etc.). We could use more helpers for set-up (starting Monday, Oct. 15 through Thursday, Oct. 18), and we have a Friends-only Preview Night (for Friends of the Library members) slated for Thursday evening, the 18th, 6 to 8 p.m. (needing cashiers and table tidiers to assist in the evening, plus customer carry-out).

Here are times for the fall Whale Sale (open to the public):

Friday, Oct. 19 –

Early Bird open $10 per adult, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Free admission 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 20

Free admission 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Free admission 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

We always need volunteer helpers for clean-up, which usually runs 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

FYI, our volunteers are extremely well fed (!) during set up and during the event…we provide breakfasts and lunches during setup, and volunteers receive free lunch tickets to order lunch from the concessionaire during the sale itself. Our snack area is always well stocked with goodies for the volunteers, too!
