What is your most vivid memory of your grandparents? Do you remember them laughing or singing? Were they alert and able to visit with you? If you can answer yes to any of these questions then you are blessed.
In today’s world our aging/disabled family members are often living alone or in an assisted living or care center. Their quality of life has diminished and the frequency of having family around has lessened. How can the gap be filled? Who will step in and provide more than meeting physical needs?
We would like to introduce you to Touching Lives! We are a group of volunteers who are committed to being the hands and feet of Jesus to the elderly. It is our passion to reach out to assisted living and nursing homes with the love of Jesus! We come as a team of volunteers who spend time with the residents, offering a non-denominational service with singing and inspirational messages. Some of our volunteers are chaplains who are available to pray and provide communion. Our director/pastor officiates funerals, baptisms, and makes hospital and hospice visits.
We love to see the joy on residents’ faces when we arrive for a service! Some comments we often hear are, “I’m so glad to see you!” “Can we sing my favorite song today?” “When are you coming back?”
Some of the nursing homes have memory care areas in which it’s our pleasure to offer music therapy. When the music begins these dear residents, whose minds are often confused, seem to “wake up” and smile and sing songs they knew as children! The room is filled with joy!
At holidays we offer special programs and work with the Activity Directors to provide some tasty goodies. We welcome family members to join us whenever possible. We draw on the talents of our volunteers and others in the community to provide special music, skits, hand-bells, and light-hearted fun. But above all, our vision is to be God’s hands and feet as our teams minister and serve the residents, families, and staff in the facilities who host us.
Touching Lives currently holds multiple services each week in the Denver area, including Lafayette and Longmont. If you would like to recommend a nursing home for a potential weekly service please contact us through our website: www.touchinglivesministry.com.
