Community Health Classes Offered in October

COAW, the Consortium for Older Adult Wellness, is offering community health classes that begin in October. Register at the contacts listed. COAW is a nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness leader trainings, community health classes and falls prevention screenings throughout Colorado to assist individuals and communities in achieving better health. Evergreen Chronic Pain Self-Management Thursdays, Oct. 5-Nov. 16 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Buchanan Park Recreation Center, 32003 Ellingwood Trail, Evergreen, CO 80439. The cost is $30. This program helps people deal with the challenges of living with chronic pain. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. Arvada National Diabetes Prevention Program Tuesdays, Oct. 10, 2017-Sept. 30, 2018. The free class meets for 16 weekly sessions followed by six monthly sessions from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Centura Health Arvada Neighborhood Health Center, 16280 W. 64th Ave., Lakewood, CO 80007. If you have pre-diabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, it’s time to take charge of your health. The National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), utilizes lifestyle change intervention to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. Lakewood Tomando Control Colorado Spanish Class Mondays, Oct. 23-Dec. 4 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Centura Health Belmar Neighborhood Health Center, 7551 W. Alameda Ave., Lakewood, CO 80226. This free six-week class taught in Spanish helps people deal with the challenges of living with an ongoing health condition such as heart disease, a lung condition, diabetes or arthritis.
