Creative Aging Workshops: Creative Writing: Our Lives, Our Poems
Poetry is not just pretty: it is a tool that helps us build community as we reflect upon the world around us. Teaching artist Andrea Asali will show you how to weave your stories and ideas into beautiful poems. Each workshop session will focus on different poetic forms, including tanka, abecedarian, ode, ghazal, and blues poems. Space is limited and registration is required. Crafts for Grownups at the Library: Crafting by the Book-Sunday, September 15, 2-4 p.m.
We’re celebrating books this month – but with a bit of a twist! Books are beautiful objects, as well as sources of important information, and sometimes when a book has finished its first life, we can find a way to give it a new purpose. Join us to create art journals, blackout poetry, jewelry and more, using books that have been discarded from the library’s collection.

London with Active Minds-Monday, September 16, 2 p.m.
Join Active Minds as we tell the story of one of the world’s greatest cities. From the Romans to the Anglo-Saxons, the Norman Conquest, and more, we will tell the story of London right up to the present day. Along the way, we’ll visit some of London’s most colorful characters and notable places.

There are more historical newspaper resources than you can imagine – and they’re easier to access in this digital age. This class will give you tips and techniques for finding records in newspapers such as birth announcements, divorces, obituaries, and news reports.Registration required on or before September 10. Internet Basics-Monday, September 9, 9:30-11 a.m.
Have you always wanted to learn how to effectively use the internet, but didn’t know where to begin? In this class we’ll go over different web browsers, navigating the internet, bookmarking websites, internet safety and more. Note: registration required and class size limited to 10 people.
Prerequisites: Computer basics (familiarity with keyboard and mouse)

Canva Basics-Monday, September 16, 9:30-11 a.m.
Canva is a free graphic-design tool website you can use online. We’ll learn how to make our own beautiful graphics using their simple drag-and-drop format. Everyone will go home with a flyer they created themselves! Note: registration required and class size limited to 10 people.
Prerequisites: Internet comfort (knows how to easily navigate a web browser, open new tabs, etc.), computer comfort (can easily use keyboard and mouse – both left and right clicking and the scroll wheel) and an active email account.

One-on-One Tech Help, Monday September 23 (9:30-11 a.m. – 30-minute time slots)
Sign up for a 30-minute individualized tech appointment with a librarian to get assistance with anything from Smartphones and Tablets to signing up for an email address. Note: Registration is required for one-on-one appointments.

Cell Phone Photography-Wednesday, September 25, 6-7:30 p.m.
Learn how to capture moments and memories beautifully, with just your smartphone! We’ll go over tips & tricks for capturing the best image you can, as well as several free photo editing apps to use after you’ve taken your picture. Note: registration required and class size limited to 10 people.

Writing a Resume with Word-Monday, September 30, 9:30-11 a.m.
Learn how to use Microsoft Word’s formatting tools to create a resume. We will go over special formatting, such as horizontal line breaks, inserting symbols and changing the margins. We will also learn how to save documents as a PDF. Note: registration required and class size limited to 10 people.
Prerequisites: Computer basics (familiarity with keyboard and mouse) and Microsoft Word basics.

Computer and Device Training: Open Computer Lab
Get answers to all of your computer-related questions every Thursday morning from 9:30-11 a.m. in the library’s Computer Lab. Practice your computer skills and have a little one-on-one time with a computer class instructor. Bring your smartphone or tablet and receive individual help downloading ebooks and eaudiobooks to your device. No registration required.
